2. How do I download Z-Opener (Zafe Opener)?
Z-Opener may be downloaded in one of two ways.
Method 1. If you have received a Zafed file, and have been asked to view it or work with it, you will have received an email from Zafesoft with a link. Please click on the link, and register yourself on the Zafesoft server, this will include assigning yourself a user name and password. Then click "Login" tab on the www.zafesoft.com website and login. You will now see a link to download the Z-Opener.
Method 2. If you have NOT been invited to view or edit an already Zafed file, you will need to first register your company from the "Login" tab on the www.zafesoft.com website. Once Zafesoft approves your request you will receive an email with a link to register yourself, and follow the process in method 1 above.
3. Can I unzafe files after they have been zafed?
Yes. You will need to follow the approval process for unzafing, your files will then be unzafed. Only the owners of the file may unzafe the files.
4. Do my files go to the Zafesoft central server?
Your files are never uploaded to the Zafesoft Central Server. The files only go where the users of the files send them or place them.
5. How can I invite other users to work with my zafed files?
Either from the Zafe Menu (MS Word, Excel etc.) OR after Right Clicking a file - you will see a Zafe Properties menu, click on it. Go to the area for users, you will see existing users etc. Click on Add User, and enter the information. The user will be sent an email with instructions on how to download and Z-Opener. When installed - they will be able to work with your files.
6. What is a zafed file?
Zafesoft technology encrypts and tracks the file. A file that has been zafed has both these properties, and can only be opened by an authorized user with Z-opener running on their local machine.
7. How does it work?
Zafesoft uses Blowfish 2.0 encryption (standard, other encryption technology may be used if desired). Once zafed, this information remains encrypted forever (or until unzafed). However the authorized user never sees the encryption, they see "clear text" and may work with this in any way they choose. Such as they may copy and paste a portion of the text (or entire content including images) to another file, they may save the information to a file, or to a USB, or CD, or Network drive, or email it etc.
Only other authorized users can see the zafed information. Unauthorized users or ex-users (people removed from authorized list) will see encryption. This is true for a "private stash" or other derivatives they may have made when they once were authorized.Authorized users must have Z-Opener running on their machine to view or edit or otherwise work with zafed information. Z-Opener is easy to get, an authorized user may invite you to their project, or you may register and download yourself.
Authorized users continue to work with zafed files as before. The files look and behave the same as before. You double click to open, and work with it. If copy is not allowed, you will not be able to copy. If you print to create a PDF (of zafed information), the PDF will also be zafed, and only authorized user will be able to see it etc.
8. How do I email a zafed file?
To email a zafed file, you simply need to add it as an attachment to the email. However you must first close the file, before attaching it. The file will not attach if it is open.
9. What about disconnected users?
Users may work with zafed files in either mode: Connected to the network or internet, OR Disconnected from the network or internet. The owner of the policy has control of these settings. If the owner allows disconnected users (typical), then users can work in disconnected mode. The owner may impose a disconnected timeout limit such as 2 days. The user may then work for up to 2 days without needing to connect to a network or internet, however they must connect with a network or internet anytime before the timeout to continue working with zafed files. Once they connect, the connection will give them another 2 days in this example.
